Courtney Mariko is a Japanese/Chinese- American artist based in Los Angeles. She received her BFA in Photography & Media and minor in Social Science from CalArts.
Growing up as a Yonsei (fourth-generation), she compares the lifestyles of American and Japanese culture, while battling and accepting an identity in both and neither simultaneously. She has a passion for Christ and the Japanese American community. Photography has helped her create transforming self-portraits and short stories that are influenced by the struggle and disconnect of what it means to be both American, Japanese, and Christian. Her work depicts the struggles and disconnect between heritage & culture and society & religion.
